Why this edition is special

  1. 01

    Large format

33 × 45 cm and 502 pages: the photographs at a size no screen can offer.

  2. 02

    Three authors, one work

312 photographs by Gabriel Brau, Pep Amores and Tino Soriano, arranged in four chapters.

  3. 03

    Foreword by Steve McCurry

The author of Afghan Girl opens the book with a text written for GPS.

  4. 04

    Fold-out triptychs

Three-page sheets that open out to show the panoramas whole.

  5. 05

    Made to last

Printed and bound in Barcelona by Agpograf, on Symbol Tatami, Munken Print Cream and Sirio Color Black papers.

The object

GPS is not made for the shelf but for the table. The format forces you to set it down, and that gesture — opening it with both hands — is as much a part of the book as the photographs. The spreads are laid out to be seen whole, without the spine eating into the image.

Compare with

How big is 33 × 45 cm

A book this size does not fit on an ordinary shelf. Compare it with something you have to hand.

The process

  1. 01

    Selection

Thousands of photographs reduced to three hundred and twelve. Three authors deciding together what stays out.

  2. 02

    Layout

A year of proofs to find the rhythm: when to breathe, when to place two images face to face.

  3. 03

    Printing

Colour proofs on the final paper, checked sheet by sheet.

  4. 04

    Binding

Sewn so the book lies flat and the spreads can be read without forcing them.

The edition

Three hundred copies. Not one more, not one less.

Every copy is numbered and signed by hand by its three authors. Once they are gone, there will be no second edition.
